Beast Mastery Hunter

TBC Classic PVP Guide

Overview

Beast Mastery Hunter is a ranged DPS with unique utility in TBC PVP. Your pet does massive damage during The Beast Within / Bestial Wrath, Scatter Shot into Freezing Trap provides reliable CC, and Viper Sting drains enemy healer mana. BM Hunter's strengths are consistent ranged pressure, strong CC, and the ability to function independently at range. The weakness is limited burst compared to Mage or Rogue, and vulnerability to melee who close the gap.

Arena Strategy

Hunter Fundamentals

Stay at range. Your damage drops significantly if enemies close to melee. Concussive Shot and Wing Clip to kite melee. Steady Shot is your bread and butter — weave it between Auto Shots. Pet management is critical — keep your pet alive and on the kill target.

Scatter / Trap CC

Scatter Shot into Freezing Trap is your primary CC chain. Scatter is instant and disorients for 4 seconds. During Scatter, drop a Freezing Trap at the target's feet. As Scatter ends, they walk into the trap for a 10-second freeze. Practice until this is automatic.

Viper Sting

Viper Sting drains mana over time. Keep it on enemy healers constantly. This is a slow but guaranteed win condition — enemy healers cannot dispel it efficiently while also healing. In long games, Viper Sting wins the mana war.

The Beast Within

TBW + Bestial Wrath: you and your pet are immune to CC for 18 seconds with increased damage. This is your burst window. Use it when the enemy healer is CC'd (Scatter/Trap). Do NOT pop TBW randomly — coordinate with your team's go.

You are the objective controller. Flare at flags to detect stealthed cappers. Tracking shows all enemies — call incoming. Steady Shot from range in team fights. Scatter/Trap enemy healers. In WSG, you are the flag carrier killer — ranged damage + Concussive Shot on the FC while your team peels.
